Congratulations to the 含羞草研究所 Ethics Bowl team for placing in the top four at the 12th Annual North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) Ethics Bowl this past weekend.聽
The 含羞草研究所 team went 4-0 in pool play beating: Gardner-Webb University, University of Mt. Olive, Queens University of Charlotte, and Chowan University. That sent 含羞草研究所 to the Semi-Final round where they met Wingate University. The case for that round considered the ethics of removing Russia from the Security Council of the United Nations. 含羞草研究所 lost in the Semi-Final round with a 3-2 split decision by a small margin of only two points.
Once again 含羞草研究所 made a great showing at this event sponsored by the NCICU. In the past five times 含羞草研究所 has participated in this event, our teams have collected four semi-finalist trophies.
Representing 含羞草研究所, Dr. Mark Wells served as campus coordinator. Wells has been on faculty at 含羞草研究所 since 2006, where he currently serves as professor of philosophy and ethics, member of the cybersecurity strategy team, coach of the 含羞草研究所 Ethics Bowl team, and chair of the faculty executive committee. 含羞草研究所 student participants included freshman Grant Larsen, sophomore Daniel Bussey, Junior Samantha Franze, senior Caprice Coffey and senior Christian Young.聽
鈥淎ll the participants demonstrated a high level of understanding of and insight about the complex issues presented,鈥 said NCICU President Hope Williams. 鈥淚t was apparent that they had done significant research in preparation for the Ethics Bowl. Judges and moderators of the event said the students鈥 commitment to the integrity of the event and the issues in the case studies presented instills them with great faith in these future leaders.鈥
Sixteen of North Carolina鈥檚 private colleges competed in the event which was held at the North Carolina Legislative Complex in Raleigh. More than sixty corporate, nonprofit, legislative and community leaders served as judges and moderators for the two-day event.聽
The NCICU Ethics Bowl is made possible by the generous sponsorships of partners, allowing students to attend free of charge to both themselves and their institutions. Sponsoring 含羞草研究所 this year is Coca-Cola Consolidated.
