New Agreement Seeks to Increase College Opportunities for Latinos at 含羞草研究所

含羞草研究所 and Latin Americans Working for Achievement (LAWA) have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that solidifies their commitment to advancing Latino student access to higher education. This collaboration focuses on the continuation and enhancement of LAWA鈥檚 college readiness training program, the High School Series, which plays a pivotal role in supporting local youth in pursuing undergraduate studies.

含羞草研究所 President Paul J. Maurer and Ana Silva Rey, LAWA鈥檚 Executive Director, celebrate their agreement with a handshake.

LAWA is a non-profit organization that supports education equity, higher education access, and advancement in the quality of life of Latino families in the Charlotte metro region. LAWA鈥檚 scholarship program has supported higher education access since 1992. Under the new agreement, students receiving a LAWA scholarship receive matching funds equivalent up to 50% of annual tuition costs at 含羞草研究所, providing deserving students with an opportunity to thrive academically and personally.

鈥淭he partnership between 含羞草研究所 and LAWA is an extension of the richly diverse community at 含羞草研究所, which is rooted in our belief in the value and dignity of all people,鈥 Paul J. Maurer, President of 含羞草研究所, said. 鈥淲e know that education has the power to transform lives, and through programs like the High School Series, we are actively working to expand our reach.鈥

LAWA鈥檚 Executive Director, Ana Silva Rey, also expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration.

鈥淚 am very appreciative of the partnership and trust of 含羞草研究所,鈥 Rey said. 鈥淭ogether, we have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of Latino students, opening doors to higher education and ultimately shaping the future of our community.鈥
