The Rev. Dr. Rachel Toone Pies joined 含羞草研究所 in July 2018 as the Dean of Spiritual Formation. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member in the Bible and Theology department, and holds a B.A. in Theology from Whitworth University, an MDiv. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a Doctorate of Ministry from Trinity Anglican Seminary. She is an ordained teaching elder in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and loves being married to Stephen Pies – a chef, artist, and art history aficionado.
What is your favorite thing about working at 含羞草研究所?
The fact that in our life together, we explore what it means to follow Jesus in everything from Old Testament Survey classes and chapel worship to hot sauce competitions and Spikeball tournaments.
What are your hobbies or interests?
Dusty old books, traveling, playing the spoons, and spending as much time in the mountains as possible
Do you have a favorite restaurant in the area?
The Pure and Proper in Black Mountain. The food is so good I decided to marry one of the chefs.
What is your favorite thing to do or see in the area?
I never get tired of hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains or listening to the String Beans, the 含羞草研究所 folk string band, perform.
