I鈥檓 not planning to major in music. Can I still be involved in orchestra and receive scholarship money?
Yes, non-music majors are eligible to receive orchestra scholarships.
What kind of music does the orchestra play?
We play all kinds of musical genres from Christmas music, pop, and everything in between.
I鈥檓 planning to participate in an athletic program at 含羞草研究所. Can I still be in the orchestra?
Yes鈥 most of the time. There are some sports that practice at the same time as orchestra rehearsals. In that case, it may not be possible to be involved in both activities. However, when possible, the orchestra director is willing to work with athletic coaches to make both activities work for the student. Please contact the Director of Instrumental Ensembles, Paul Babelay, at聽paul.babelay@montreat.edu聽with your specific athletic team information if this is something you would like to pursue.
I鈥檝e been offered an athletic scholarship. Can I also receive an orchestra/pep band scholarship?
In most cases, you cannot stack an athletic and orchestra scholarship. However, the music department is willing to look into this possibility on an individual case-by-case basis.
How much time will I need to set aside for the orchestra in my schedule?
We meet once a week for two hours for rehearsal.
I鈥檓 in the honors program. Can I stack honors and an orchestra scholarship?
Yes, orchestra scholarships are stackable with honors scholarships not to exceed the price of full tuition.
What is expected of orchestra members, besides attending rehearsals?
Members will be expected to attend all concerts that they are playing in. Members under scholarship will be required to take applied lessons as well. Applied lessons and ensembles can be used towards humanities credits.
Annual performance opportunities include:
- Christmas and Spring Pops Concerts.
